Additionally, a significant potential exists for methamphetamine production and distribution in the state. There are also reports of low-quality methamphetamine being shipped into the state from California and the southwestern states. Officials have noted that trafficking groups responsible for the sale of crystal meth are mostly outlaw motorcycle clubs.
There were no meth lab seizures in the state of Maine in 2007, which indicates that the drugs are getting to the consumers, with little to no trouble from the police. Another indication of this occurrence is that of the 30.9% of the Federally-sentenced defendants in Maine that committed drug offenses, only 1.7% of those defendants were there for crystal meth-related charges.
