Crystal meth abuse does not have to go unhandled. The key to handling this terrifying addiction is knowing what you are working with. When someone is addicted to crystal meth they become consumed with the drug. Because of the euphoric rush and increased amount of energy that this drug provides, it is hard for peope to only use crystal meth once. Once a person is addicted everything about them changes.
They look different; their pupils become dilated, they lose massive amounts of weight, their skin can become greasy and break out, they tend to have sores on their arms, legs and face from picking at imaginary bugs and their teeth are often rotting. These are only the physical symptoms that you can see. Crystal meth addicts also suffer from high blood pressure, heart rate and temperature. Because crystal meth works with the receptors in the brain to release all the dopamine stores, addicts are often very depressed when not on the drug. In addition to depression, addicts will crave more of the drug because it is the only thing that will make them "happier".

Crystal Meth Rehabs in North Dakota
North Dakota has named methamphetamine as its biggest drug threat to date. There are two factors that are occurring to make Methamphetamine such a big problem for this state. The first is that Mexican drug trafficking organizations are transporting the drug into North Dakota via commercial and private vehciles and postage carriers. The second factor is that methamphetamine is still being produced in small, toxic laboratories that are capable of producing only a few ounces at a time. North Dakota's State General Assembly passed legislation requiring that every individual who purchases a product containing pseudoephedrine must show photo identification.
In addition to putting restrictions on the sale of the essential ingredients to make methamphetamine, North Dakota has implemented the Retailers Meth Watch Program. The North Dakota Meth Watch Program is a partnership between the Attorney General's Office and concerned North Dakota retailers. The goals of the program are to raise awareness of the problems associated with methampehtamine labs, to educate and train retail employees to recognize signs of individuals obtaining meth production precursors, and to limit the availablity of precursor chemicals.
Children in North Dakota have become influenced by the methamphetamine problem in the state as well. 3.1% of 9th graders have reported to using methampehtamine at least once in their lives. By the time these children reach the 12th grade the percentage raises to 5.5% of children abusing methampehtamine.
In 2007, the Federal goernment has seized only 1.1 kilograms or 2 dosage units of crystal meth. Additionally, during 2007, 33.8% of the Federally-sentenced defendants in North Dakota had committed a drug offense. 81.7% of those defendants had committed a methamphetamine-related crime.
There were 2,383 admissions to drug and alcohol rehabs in the state of North Dakota for 2007. Methamphetamine addicts accounted for 248 of those admissions. |
