 Methamphetamine is the biggest drug threat to hit the state of South Dakota in years. Additionally, this program oversees the South Dakota Alliance for Drug Endangered Children, which coordinates the work of law enforcement, medical services and child protection workers to ensure that children found at drug laboratories receive the appropriate attention and care.

South Dakota Crystal Meth Abuse
 One of the main reasons why South Dakota acknowledges crystal meth as its biggest drug threat is because of the amount of children who are abusing the drug. While 6% of 9th graders have reported to abusing methamphetamien that number jumps up substantially by the time children reach the 12th grade. 20% of 12th graders have abused crystal meth at least once in their lives.
The Federal government seized 18.7 kilograms of methamphetamine in 2007. Additionally, there were only seven meth labs seized in the state of South Dakota.
During 2006, approximately 29.1% of the Federally-sentenced defendants in South Dakota had committed drug offenses. 60.8% of those defendants were incarcerated for a methamphetamine-related charge.
During 2007, there were 2 children affected by methamphetamine labs in the state of South Dakota.
During 2006, there were 15,802 admissions to drug and alcohol rehabs. Methamphetamine addiction accounted for 1,154 of those admissions.
